Sunny at a Distance

This was my first photoshoot wearing a mask and keeping a 6′ distance from my subject. It was weird! Usually if I see a hair out of place or a shirt bunching up weird, I just fix it and keep going. But not this time! I was determined to maintain a safe distance and get the perfect shot at the same time. (A new challenge!) We had already delayed our session once due to the health crisis, so we were determined to get this done and get it done RIGHT. Thank goodness for a great lens and gorgeous, sunny subject like Cam! Also super helpful that her lovely mom was there to assist – jumping in to catch and perfect all the things that I would be inclined to do myself on a normal shoot.

Despite how different this session was from “the norm” I couldn’t be prouder of how it turned out! This kid has the most lovely, warm presence that it’s impossible to take a bad picture of her. She is truly a ray of sunshine – and I can tell from her mom’s stories that it’s not just me who thinks so. Even in her cheesier, silly moments (not included in this selection – you’re welcome Cam!), she still radiates positivity and gratitude. She has a fun, down-to-earth nature that the camera just can’t get enough of. And despite the complete weirdness of how her senior year is wrapping up, she is taking it with a smile and a shrug. It’s that kind of attitude that will serve her well in life — especially as a middle school teacher! (I know this from experience!) I have no doubt that she will succeed in anything she puts her mind to, and that she can overcome any challenge with that sunny smile and modest shrug — this year is proof of that!

Best of luck at the University of Dayton next year, Cam! I’ll look forward to seeing you around town – we’re lucky to keep you!

  1. Gorgeous photos! What a beautiful young woman—and as you said, her delightful personality leaps off the page and engages the viewer! Lovely description of the challenges of this Covid 19 era photo shoot — maintaining a safe distance but still doing it right!! Congrats to the graduate—and to the photographer!
